Oklahoma!…where the quakes keep shakin’ up the range!

Arguably one of the more amazing things to come along in the great oil-and-gas boom adventure is this: the USGS and the Oklahoma Geologic Survey have issued an alert for a heightened chance of a M5.5+ earthquake in central Oklahoma. Live Science has a nice summary of the USGS press release and some background. Aside from getting folks in brick buildings worried about something other than tornadoes (don’t these poor folks in Oklahoma suffer enough?), what stands out is the strong implication that this is from deep wastewater wells associated with oil and gas development.

GG will grumble about the whole fracking and shale oil and gas world later, but this seemed worth noting now…
